Note from the Artist:

There is a quote by Eric Liddell that has always resonated with me: "God made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure." I think that's why I find so much joy in the creative work that I do.

I began to practice painting in 2012 after I graduated from college. It took me a little while to find what medium and subjects I enjoyed, but I knew that I really wanted to try to paint songbirds and some of the simple beauties of nature.

Since then, I have learned (and am still learning with each painting and drawing) how to reach through the paper with the paintbrush or colored pencil to finally be able to "touch" each bird, animal, or plant. That specific moment of each painting is so special to me, and it fills me with joy and gratitude each time.

To me, painting is an act of worship and thanks to God. I want my desk to act as an altar of sorts. I hope that prayers of gratitude are reflected in each painting, and call those who see them to look for songs of thanksgiving in the little, the everyday, and the overlooked.

I now live with my sweet husband Matthew in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee.                                                                                             -Gracie Hogue
